ISO 50001 Energy Management System (EnMS)
The ISO 50001 Documentation is a key requirement for any organization, which implements energy management system and go for ISO 50001certification. The standard itself does not describe that what to document, it only indicates that organization should establish, implement and maintain information, in paper, electronic or any other medium, to describe the core elements of the EnMS and their interaction. Experience ISO consultants describe well about ISO 50001 documentation which guides customers for implementing energy management system in quick time. ISO 50001 documents must be prepared as it defines overall energy management system implemented as per ISO 50001:2011 standard requirements. Many organizations will not have all the formats required to address every component of ISO 50001 documentation based on internal resources. An alternative to completing the documentation is to outsource ISO 50001 certification documents from expert energy management consultants who can ensure that the requirements are executed according to proven best practices.
Benefits:
Conformance to energy management standard will demonstrate that the plant or company implemented sustainable energy management systems, completed a BASELINE of energy use and committed to continuously improve their energy performance. The standard, which is compatible with the widely used ISO 90001 (Quality Management) ISO14001 (Environment management), also accomplishes the followings:
- Assists organizations in optimizing their existing energy-consuming assets
Offers guidance on benchmarking, measuring, documenting and reporting energy intensity improvements and their projected impact on reducing GHG emissions. - Creates transparency and facilitates communication on the management of energy resources.
- Promotes energy management best practices and reinforces good energy management behaviors.
- Assists facilities in evaluating and prioritizing the implementation of new energy efficiency throughout the supply chain.
- Facilitates energy management improvements in the context of GHG emission reduction projects.
All in all, ISO 50001 is NOT just documentation commitment to environment but a well implemented ISO 50001 System will certainly help a company to achieve actual dollars saving in the short and long term.
